From 2015 to 2018, artist and designer Michael Mulvey documented San Francisco through the cars that quietly inhabit its streets. These aren’t random vehicles—they’re a visual essay of classic machines in every state imaginable: pristine survivors, faded relics, backyard repairs, and forgotten beauties waiting for one last drive.

Mulvey’s eye makes time feel slippery. Many photos leave you wondering whether they were captured yesterday or fifty years ago. The result is a portrait of a city told through weird cars, beautiful cars, ugly cars, sad cars, and joyful cars—but always interesting cars.
